Some users complaining of Nokia Lumia 900 "Akron, Ohio GPS bug" [Updated]
Love telephone, we're not in Akron!
Update: Nokia just pinged united states of america to let us know they are "...aware of the result and it has been addressed, but users may need to restart their phones to see the fix take result." Moreover, this does not seem to exist a Lumia 900 issue per se but rather related to AT&T'southward LTE towers. Obviously some Android users have had this problem besides.
Information technology looks like the Nokia Lumia 900 on AT&T is experiencing withal another odd and seemingly random issues these days. For some users, when they fire up a GPS application such every bit Maps, Local Scout, Foursquare (for checkins) or Yelp, they show up as being in Akron, Ohio despite non actually being there.
The issue get-go popped up in Nokia'due south support forums with two threads and a scattering of users noting the problem. Some other thread appeared here in the Windows Telephone Central Forums as well. But to be honest, we had only received i e-mail complaint on the matter from reader Alex T. and we had not seen this bug ourselves to verify--and so off it went into the "quirks" pile for further investigation.
This week though every bit we're paling effectually with Rafael Rivera and Paul Thurrott in sunny San Francisco, both of their devices of a sudden had this happen. First up was Thurrott who'due south telephone just would not budge from the smashing state of Ohio. Despite soft-resets, some toggling and a boatload of swearing, there it stayed.
Later that night, Rivera'south telephone did the exact same thing when nosotros were at Denny's. What was curious though was how both phones, even when placed adjacent to each other, did not take the problems at the same time. Both Lumia 900s, both on AT&T, yet one worked and the other did not. (Our 900 was in tow but nosotros were using the Focus 2 equally our master device this week).
Nosotros're not sure if this is related to AT&Ts network for aGPS, an issue with total GPS or maybe something in betwixt. We have noticed that more than folks seem to experience information technology on the W declension just that could simply be sampling error.
Then we figured we would crowdsource this a flake and ask you if you lot've experienced this on your Lumia 900. And if so, what state are you in? Striking the poll beneath. (And for our international users, have you had something similar?).
It'south hither
The AT&T version of Surface Duo is now getting Android 11
After a very long wait, the original Surface Duo is now eligible to receive its over-the-air Os update to Android 11. Here is what is new and fixed with the biggest update yet for Microsoft's outset dual-screen Android device.
