What Size Nut Files Do I Need

  • Some fraudsters take compromised TGP accounts accept in the past few days. They have scammed members in the Emporiums by creating ads with stolen photos and requesting Paypal F&F or Venmo exclusively for payment.

We take these issues seriously. We've fabricated security changes that I don't want to detail here to stop them. However, the best way to prevent this is for members to exercise proper countersign hygiene (which I'll detail beneath), turn on 2-factor authentication, and -- I implore every unmarried person here -- simply utilise payment methods that take buyer protection. Unfortunately, we cannot control how members do deals. Information technology is heartbreaking to encounter that the lure of saving some coin volition still fool people into using those methods to save a few dollars. In today's earth, that is imitation confidence you can no longer afford.

Every business relationship that I've restored and then far to the original possessor was using compromised passwords. Talking to ane member equally I am working through getting his account back in social club, he informed me that his Apple password manager had been compromised and made available on the dark spider web.

None of the accounts compromised were using two-cistron hallmark.

Nosotros accept forced e-mail revalidation for all members that have non signed on for a while. We highly recommend every member reading this modify their passwords equally a precaution. We want to highly recommend that members turn on and apply TGP's two-factor authentication option.

We have opened a discussion thread in the Pub section discussing this.Nosotros will include a very detailed password checklist.

Question for the tech/repair guys. When filing nut or bridge saddle slots do you lot recommend the exact string guage file, or slightly larger?

I recommend verbal size considering you're going to jerk a bit as you create the slot. And you can't hands "go smaller" one time you've removed material. So a file that cuts a .009" slot is what you want for .009 approximate strings. Try not to jerk. Throw the strings on and come across where you are as far every bit binding in the slot. As you tighten the string, you'll hear a ping and the pitch will drop. That's good. It means you didn't cutting the slot too wide. Take the file and run information technology gently through the slot again, taking intendance to run parallel to the string path. Make clean information technology and drop a bit of lube into the slot and try the tuning machine again. Mind for the ping... No ping? No sudden drop in pitch? You lot're skillful to become. You lot'll know you went to far if you hear a weird sitar-like whine.

Most people accept no problem with a ten slot holding a 9 string and then forth.

Skilful question, no consensus. I find it depends on guitar model, strings and gauge.

Some facts for you lot:

  • Many guitars have problems with nut slots being besides tight.
  • Actual string gauge varies due to tolerances and make
  • Many pro builders would go 0.002-0.003" higher when filing a slot to ensure strings won't bind.
  • A regular 10-46 string set has a G-string that is 0.017". The nearly popular fix of nut files come with a 0.016" file, adjacent in line is 0.024". A plain G-string could be problematic sometimes and many people complain. Fifty-fifty though there's more than one reasons for this, the nut file mismatch doesn't make things easier.
  • A 0.020" file is a useful tool that covers a lot of footing including wound G-strings of light judge. For some reason 0.020 files are rare.
  • Nosotros sometimes accept to jerk a file on purpose (that is a fleck more wiggling than the unintentional fluctuant that is inevitable when a human being handles a precision tool).
  • After filing, the slots may accept to exist dressed for polish functioning. There are dissimilar methods involving sand newspaper, abrasive wire, old strings, lube etc. The better you cut, the less fine tuning is required after.

To add to this, where are the 110 and above nut files for heavy gauge bass strings? Like the Labella Jamerson ready or those huge tapewounds. Are we supposed to use the 105 file and file sideways?

Use a rat tail. Size the slot to fit the string. Extreme precision is not required.

I would say that nut slots need to exist very precise to avoid buzz.

Non really. Prop upwards your cord on a boom or similar, and as long every bit there is a clean breakover point there volition exist no fizz.

they make bass-sized files; typically the biggest ones volition be the double-sided versions, the largest one has .105 on one side and.120 on the other

oh and no rat tail files, that's the wrong tool

Indeed in one case you get upwards to the size of large bass strings, at that place are some 'conventional' files that might exist in the right size ballpark, if you can't afford a specialist gear up of bass nut files. 0.105" is 2.7mm. File sizes for 6-cord slots are much harder to find outside the domain of specialist nut files.
